Shawnee County, KS – The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) is pleased to announce its participation in the 30th anniversary of National Public Health Week (NPHW), observed from April 7-13, 2025. In recognition of this milestone, SCHD will host an Open House on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the department’s J.P. Lewis Building at 2600 SW East Circle Dr., Topeka, KS 66606.
The Open House aims to engage the community by showcasing the department’s services, programs, and initiatives dedicated to promoting and protecting public health in Shawnee County. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet public health professionals, learn about available resources, and discover ways to contribute to a healthier community.
This year’s NPHW theme, “It Starts Here,” emphasizes the importance of individual and collective efforts in building healthier communities. The American Public Health Association (APHA) has organized NPHW for the past 30 years to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health.
In conjunction with NPHW, Governor Laura Kelly signed a proclamation declaring April 7-13, 2025, National Public Health Week in Kansas. This proclamation acknowledges the vital role that public health plays in enhancing the well-being of Kansans and supports efforts to address current and emerging health challenges.
SCHD invites all community members to join the Open House event on April 8 to celebrate public health achievements and explore opportunities for collaboration in fostering a healthier Shawnee County.
